As for the low discharge flow, high-energy consumption problem of DH-71 centrifugal air compressor in Oxygen Plant, Panzhihua Steel and Vanadium Co. Ltd., the classical theories of centrifugal compressor have been summarized thoroughly in this paper, such as: impeller theory, gas dynamics and thermodynamics theory, three-dimensional flow theory and vibration theory. Furthermore, this air compressor has been analyzed and studied scientifically by system analyzing method, according to the goal of this project. First of all, the site compressor structure assignment figure is surveyed and mapped. The mathematical model of the compressor device system is set up with the original data measured. Then the pipeline character curve is drawn according to the pipeline resistance vs. flow p_e—Q equation. Since the even pipeline character curve shows that the pipeline design and installation is correct, we should study the operation energy saving technology measure from the compressor itself. Further studying the energy transfer and loss theory of the compressor device system derives the total efficiency η_z equation of the compressor device. The equation provides us the direction of saving compressor energy consumption and enhancing the discharge flow. This paper finds out the main reasons of high-energy consumption and low discharge flow problem by applying the theory referred above and integrating the theory with the site operation condition of the compressor. The feasible technology scheme to upgrade the discharge flow and cut down the energy consumption is put forward in this paper on the basis of the reasons. As for the enterprise's consideration on the investment, only five items of these technology measures are tested: reducing the inlet resistance, cutting off the end cooler, raising the oil temperature and turning up the inlet guide vanes, lowering the machine body temperature and polishing the surface of the impeller. This technology scheme is turned out to be easy to operate, need less investment and time, and integrates the production reality closely. The experimental result is good and the original problem is solved efficiently. The machine works steadily and normally, and the oxygen output is greatly improved. The liquid polishing technology and the vibration emery belt abrading technology, which can efficiently save the energy consumption, are firstly put forward in this paper. It can be popularized and applied to the same type compressor of the same internal field.
