With the society developing and people's life improving, the customers'demands for shape precision of metal strip are increasing. It is important to control and improve the flatness, which is one of norms to assess shape precision of metal strip. The tension leveling is a main method to remove the defect on flatness and improve the shape of strip. The tension leveling has been used on a large scale, but there is not a reliable theoretical method to adjust process parameter for different shape defect in practice. It is one of the important reasons that the research on the metal strip deformation mechanism of tension leveling is not sufficient and systematical enough yet. With the common finite analysis software ABAQUS, this paper founds a rational finite element model of tension leveling based on elasto-plastic deformation mechanism and deep research on tension leveling. This paper achieved the results that the tension and intermesh affect the specific elongation and the thickness of strip affect the specific elongation of longitudinal fiber level. This paper explained rationally these results and adjusted process parameters of tension leveling in practice based on these results. And the finite element model of tension leveling provides a useful method for designing tension leveling machine. The results of this paper have been applied preliminarily in some projects of one steel design institute.
