Based on the analysis of the disadvantage of traditional assembly motion navigation, a new approach, which is based on collision detection and assembly force has been put forward. In this new approach, some key techniques such as assembly modeling, assembly feature abstracting, collision detection and assembly force exerting have been solved, and realized the prototype system for virtual assembly. The prototype system is illustrated with industrial examples. The design philosophy essence of motion navigating in virtual assembly on the basis of collision detection and assembly force is the dynamic simulation of the realistic assembling process, whose thought bases on the characteristic of reality assembling process, It guide the assembling part through collision detection in real time, then controls and adjusts the space location of the part using the digital facilities, and fixes the position of the part accurately under the assembling force, so makes the assembling process ocular , true , convenient. When assembling it can simulate physics restrains and geometry restrains state of the part in real time, so improves the quality of assembling.
