As a key technology of the Virtual Manufacture, Virtual Assembly attracts concerns from both academic and industrial fields. The virtual assembly environment is built by data model of the product to simulate and analyse the assembly process, to evaluate the assembly schema,and to find the assembly defaults as early as possible. Also the assembly information can be feeded back to the designers.Using this technology,the traditional physical prototype of the product can be replaced with the digital prototype. It can not only be favourable to the deployment of Concurrent Engineering,but also can greatly shorten the product's design period, reduce the product's design costs,and improve the product's commercial competitive ability.So virtual assembly has important theoretical and practical value to the implement of Agile Manufacture,Virtual Manufacture and other advanced manufacture model. This dissertation studied the present status of Virtual Assembly and several key technology and implement methods of Virtual Assembly System.The main contents of this paper are presented as follows: (1) The main fuctions of this Virtual Assembly System were studied and the main constructure was built. This system chosed Visual C++ 6.0 and WTK 9.0 as the development platform. (2) The data model of assembly and the methods of establishing the virtual assembly environment were studied. After several representative models of assembly were analysed,our system adopted the multi-level structure which has the advantage of simply structure and high operating efficiency. We studied the different ways of part modeling in CAD system and VAS. Through obtaining the parts'information from UG Open/API,the system realized data converting from CAD files to the neutral files. In addition, the paper detailedly recapitulated the methods of organizing virtual assembly scene and concrete realization. (3) In this paper,we made much detailed study on assembly simulation and it's several key technology. The paper presented the design ideas of assembly simulation and it's implementing process , focused on the researching of key technology such as the basic arithmetic of collision detecting and it's accelerating methods, the establishment of assembly constraints and implement of the movement with constraints and so on.
