Fabrics with excellent moisture management properties can be found on the market and widely used for sportswear. Most of these fabrics are made by shaped cross section fibers.In this thesis, the cross-sections of shaped fibers with moisture management properties were studied and the fabric moisture management properties of these fibers were also evaluated.In order to study the fiber cross-section, resin embedding method was used. With rotary microtome, the proper thickness section can be obtained, and fibers in such section can be observed by light microcopy clearly. Compared with hand microtome method, this method can avoid the pressure to the fiber during sample preparation. The slicing procedure is easier and the images with this method are clearer. With resin embedding method, five kinds of shaped fiber cross-section were obtained. Resin embedding method is also suitable for the yarn cross section making, which makes the fiber assignment in the image of the yarn cross section original.Based on the images of the fiber cross-section we obtained and the theoryof the yarn wicking, characteristics of the fiber cross section were introduced and the relationship between these characteristics and their influence on the yarn wicking was also analyzed. The characteristic of four kinds of cross-section shaped fiber were measured. The results of different cross section fiber were analyzed.With one yarn cross section and four fiber cross sections, the parameters of yarn wicking were calculated. The results of different cross section fiber were analyzed in theory.The end use of these shapexd fibers is to make fabrics of moisture management properties, so the moisture management properties of the fabric were also studied. The standards concerned to evaluate the fabric's moisture management properties are compared and analyzed and a new standard is introduced.Using this new standard, twenty-six commercial moisture management fabrics, which made of shaped fiber, were tested and evaluated. Based on the cluster analysis, the fabrics were sorted in five grades. It was found that more than 73% of all fabrics were in good or above good moisture management fabric grade. The moisture management property of fabrics contained different cross-section fiber was also compared. The result of this evaluation is correlated to the calculating parameter of the yarn wicking.
