Based on the experience of operation and optimization of the technical conditions in the potline of 240kA prebaked aluminum reduction cells at Hunan Changyuan Aluminum Co. Ltd., some deficiencies in the design of the cells were found; through the optimization of the technical conditions, very good technological indexes were achieved on this potline and some of them even exceeded the designed ones.In the analysis of technical parameters, the calculation of average deviation was applied to analyze their change trends and the calculation of scattering degree was used to analyze their consistency. The application results showed that these methods were helpful for the technological macro-management of aluminum reduction cells.As aluminum reduction cell is a slowly changing system, the adjustment of technical conditions must follow proper sequence, and the adjustment extent should be controlled in a suitable limit to avoid large fluctuations. Stable cell operation is the premise for the process control systems; when a cell fluctuates very seriously, the control system will stop the analysis of alumina concentration, which will affect the control of alumina concentration and, furthermore, influence the control of Anode Effects (AE).The material balance and the heat balance are two important aspects that should be taken into consideration while analyzing the technical conditions, and the parameters including the freeze profile, the heights of the two melts, bain temperature, the status of the coverage and crust, the quality of the anodes and the status of the related outfits, etc. should be comprehensively used in the analysis of the technical conditions. The dialectical relationships among the factors affecting cell status should be well used in order to find the real factors causing problems and prevent from adjusting from worse to worse. The storage and management of various process data should be enhanced, the powerful functions for data storage and treatment in modern aluminum reduction cell control systems should be utilized and, furthermore, scientificanalyzing methods should be used so as to find the inner laws from the huge database; at the same time the job of data inputing should be strictly supervised to keep the data inputted are correct and objective and provide a guarantee for operators' decision-make.
