Recently, society and people in the world pay more and more attention to ecological security. Sustainable development in some cities was threatened because of their severe state of ecological security. In this paper, regional security pattern of Nantai Island of Fuzhou City was studied. TM images of 1986 and 2003 were used to study the landscape pattern, and by setting up the framework of Pressure-State-Response(PSR) and Analytic hierarchy process(AHP), an index system of ecological security assessment were established. By using remote sensing software ERDAS and Geographic Information System software (Arc View 3.2), the status of ecological security pattern in Nantai Island was evaluated from the views of landscape ecology, human activity and natural resource utilization. The thesis organized four chapters as follows: The first chapter was a brief introduction of research background and significance. Meanwhile it summarized research trend of ecological security in the world. The second chapter expatiated on the theory basis of ecological security. It analyzed conception, attribute, classification, evaluation and early-warning of ecological security. The third chapter was the key part of the thesis. After introducing Nantai Island's natural and social environment, the thesis put forward the general framework of ecological security research. With TM image, we integrate the RS, GPS, GIS and landscape ecological principles into evaluating ecological security. Basing on the evaluation, we analyzed the early-warning situation, warning source and warning degree of ecological security in Nantai Island. The research results showed that the ecological security of Nantai Island was severe threatened, and the status in 2003 was worse than that in 1986. On the basis of the research result, the fourth chapter suggested some detailed countermeasures to maintain ecological security of Nantai Island and provide some rational advice for planning to Nantai Island. In order to build a sustainable future in Nantai Island, we must strengthen the ecological planning, adjust the industry structure and set up the framework of ecological security from the overall situation.
