Continuous miners are widely used in modern mines because of the development of shortwall coal mining method and the reserves decrease of regular coalfields. An operating mechanism is one of important components on a continuous miner. As an operating mechanism is cantilever type on working, its condition is bad, and force is complex on cutting drums, on which the loads are changed at any moment. These lead to continuous miner vibration badly, decrease fatigue strength of transmission parts and connections, and effect the stability and reliability of continuous miner. Firstly, the mathematical model of hard parcels is established, according to coal seam features and distributive regularity of hard parcels and rock seams in coal formation .The simulation of kinds of distribute regularity is fulfilled based on Matlab in the paper. Secondly, the random load models of coal formation, in which there are lots of parcels and several rock seams, are established, which based on studying the forces on a pick. The load regularity is found while the operating mechanism of continuous miner works on complex coal formation. Finally, the optimization model is established, which takes synthetical economic returns of coal enterprises as total object function, and takes specific energy consumption, load fluctuation coefficient, coal fragmentation degree and productivity ratio as subobject model. The structure parameters and movement parameters of cutting drums are regarded as design variants in the models. The constructions are determined according to work condition of operating mechanism and designer's experience. Based on ideas of biological evolution, structure parameters and movement parameters are optimized in different cutting impedance in the model by using GA toolbox of Matlab7.01. So the optimization model could ensure coal enterprises obtaining better economic returns.
