To have the index of activation energy been applied to appraising spontaneous combustion tendency of coal, using thermogravimetric analysis instrument, study combustion experiment of different coal sample. The experiments results of different heating rate show that TG curves move to high temperature zone with the increasing of heating rate. The result of activation energy, computed using the thermogravimetric kinetics, suggest that activation energy of coal increases gradually with the increasing of heating rate. Heating rate is an important influential factor for spontaneous combustion tendency characterization of the coal. The experiments results of different particle size show that TG and DSC curves move to low temperature zone with the increasing of particle size. Activation energy of coal decreases gradually with the increasing of particle size. Particle size is also an important influential factor for spontaneous combustion tendency characterization of the coal.
