Metal-bond diamond wheels are usually applied in machining of hardand brittle materials to obtain higher machining efficiency. However, thewheels will be blunt after working for some time. It is needed fordiamond to be dressed in time. Diamond wheels can be trued andsharpened quickly with electrolytic dressing method. The ingredients andperformance parameters of electrolytic grinding fluid have importanteffects on dressing quality of wheels.Through anti-rustiness experiments, the least contents of additives inelectrolyte were determined on basis of different NaCl contents.Performance parameters including surface tension, cooling andelectrolyse, were measured on electrolytic fluid with better anti-rustiness.Thus the electrolytic dressing fluid with best performances was obtained. The fluid was tested through electrolyzing operation of the workpiecewith complex shape. The theoretical model of fluid current field during dressing area wasfounded to calculate and analyze the velocity flow with different wheelrotation speeds and dressing clearances. In order to fill the wheel dressingclearance evenly, the improving schemes to main current field andassistant current field were put forward based the analyses of flow. Thedressing quality of diamond grinding wheels can be improved through theadoption of right-angle or boot last muzzle, and baffle. The diamond grits were measured with the computer technique ofimage identification. The digital images of diamond grits were modified, filtered and blacken with Matlab software. And then the grits wereconverted to different areas and sizes. The size distributing of diamondgrits was analyzed and the protruding ratio of grits was calculated. Thestudy indicated that image identification was feasible to analyze theshapes and size distributing of diamond grits. And the height of gritsprotruding from bond of diamond wheel can obtained.
