The virtual world which is constructed by the technology of virtual reality (VR), features of immersion, interactivity and imagination, has profoundly changed people s life. As part of virtual environment, virtual laboratory (VL) is playing more and more important role in the area such as science, technology, education and training. Along with the development of computer network technology, the construction of network virtual laboratory (NVL) comes true and the NVL has become a research hotpot at present, since it has extraordinary cost performance.The construction of virtual physical chemistry laboratory is a comparatively complicated process, for the physical chemistry experiments involved in many deep theories, complex instruments and equipments, difficult data processing. In this paper, the construction style, the developing pattern and the realization technology of physical chemistry NVL have been brought forward on the basis of the thorough researching VL theory and developing technology.In this paper the modular design concept is used to construct the physical chemistry NVL, and the NVL is divided into three modules such as the system of experiment assistant (SEA), the system of virtual experiment (SVE) and the system of data processing (SDP). Moreover, according to different experiment objects, SVE is divided into four kinds of experiments, such as thermodynamics experiment, electrochemistry experiment, chemical kinetics experiment, surface and colloid chemistry experiment. In view of the different characters of each system, different methods have been used in the constructing process.SEA involves navigation and introduction system, testing system, prompt system, evaluation system and assistant tools system, and it has used many kinds of construction patterns except S pattern.In SVE, the design of the virtual laboratory scene has been completed firstly. Taking the deficiency of the MVC design pattern in the construction of the SVE into account, the (M+V)C design pattern has been put forward. Meanwhile, each kind of experiment in SVE has been researched thoroughly, and the structure of VL has been determined separately and the solutions to the key problems have been proposed in the constructing process.The SDP comprises TDP and WDP. Thereinto, TDP is realized mainly through ActionScript, and WDP is realized by using the design pattern of MVC and the component technology.In this paper, a set of physical chemistry NVL has been constructed through the realization of the above systems. In the NVL, the whole experiment processes with vivid scene have been simulated, and each kind of simulated operation could be done according to actual experimental operation. Moreover it has so strong function of data processing that it can deepen understandings of the experiment process and the corresponding physical chemistry theories. It has widely practical prospect in the operation training of the physical chemistry experiments and the study of network experiment curriculums.
