The virtual world, features of immersion and interactivity and imagination, has profoundly changed people s life. As a part of virtual environment, virtual instrument (VI) and virtual laboratory (VL) are playing more and more important roles in the area such as science, technology, education and training. Thereinto, software virtual instrument (S-VI) and emulating Virtual Laboratory (E-VL) walk in the spotlight because of their extraordinary cost performance.The built of S-VI and E-VL, involved in the design of learn method and surrounding scene and the construct of analytical model, is a complicated process. Based on the thorough research of the VI and VL, the practical work of "chromatograph VI and VL", whose prototype is college-level chromatograph experiment, is built by using Flash technique.On the basis of chromatographic theory and real experimental processes, a real time interactive virtual GC and LC instruments and virtual lab are built with ActionScript program. In GC VI and VL, according to the relationship between the alcohols retention parameters and the flow rate of carrier gas as well as column temperature, a predicted model of alcohols retention parameters in different experimental conditions is constructed. In LC VI and VL, according to the relationship between aspirin and salicylic acid s retention parameters and the flow rate of carrier liquid as well as the composition of the mobile liquid, a predicted model of aspirin and salicylic acids retention parameters in different experimental conditions is constaicted. Followed with the model the design program is optimized. With the application of this built web virtual GC and LC instruments and virtual lab, chromatographic curves can be drawn interactively, dynamically and time-on-stream and the simulated results such as the optimum flow, minimum plate height and the reports of quantitative calculation are obtained by changing the simulated experimental conditions. Moreover, the comparison of the simulated calculation and the actual experimental results is also listed out.Three types of GC and two types of LC VL are built. All these indicate that the web virtual GC and LC virtual labs can provide us a vivid scene of GC analytic process and simulated practice like the actual experimental operation. It is of great value to learn chromatographic theory and train practice.The GC VL has won prizes in "The 8th National Multimedia Education Software Award" and "The 4th National Multimedia Education Courseware Award", which indicates it has been affirmed by experts. At the same time, helpful experience for future E-VL development is got. During these three years, I have written three papers. The first has published on international conference proceeding, the second is accepted by Computer and Applied Chemistry, the third one has contributed to Laboratory Research and Exploration.
