For the virtual reality technology is maturing, the virtual instrument and the virtuallaboratory have become the focus and have been widely applied on the science research,education and training, especially the soft virtual instrument and evaluation virtual laboratorywhich has many outstanding characteristics, such as network, scenic, intelligence, highinteraction, extraordinary cost performance etc. Therefore, they have become a researchhotspot at present.Chromatography is developing into a high efficiency and economic separatingtechnology, for its rapid development and extensive applications. The chromatography playsan important role in the chemistry, biology, medication and so on. The complicated modeland mathematics calculation are mostly investigated by the chromatography separatingsoftware, with the purpose of improving the precision of the prediction and optimizing theseparating conditions. At present the software which integrates the simple and convenientprediction model, watching experiment operation simulation, optimizing separatingconditions and predicting results, are imperative. We aim at developing virtual laboratorysoftware for training, research designing and experiment exercise. Thus, it's the researchbackground of this paper.Based on chromatographic theory and real experimental processes, an open ionchromatography virtual laboratory and an open gas chromatography virtual laboratory wereconstructed in the paper by using the flash 8.0 technology and the ActionScript 2.0 programtechnology.As the retention data has some relationship with the component of eluents, taking theanion in water as the object, the retention model in different conditions was put forward in theopen ion chromatography virtual laboratory. In gas chromatography virtual laboratory,according to the relationship between the material retention parameters and the flow rate ofcartier gas as well as column temperature, a predicted model for material retention parametersin different experimental conditions was constructed.By analyzing the chromatography workstation, virtual workstation in the virtuallaboratory was constructed in the paper. This paper also presented a virtual ionchromatography Chromeleon workstation and a virtual gas chromatography N2000workstation which corresponds to the chromatography virtual experiment by using the component technology. The virtual workstation can control the instruments, draw dynamicchromatogram line, process data, draw standard curve and export experiment report. Thewhole chromatography experiment process can be simulated. The results in the virtualexperiment are close to those in the real experiment. The virtual laboratory was constructedby the open design method, which transfers the virtual laboratory data into the exteriordocument. The users can change the virtual experiment content according to demand.In the VL, the whole experiment process with vivid scene has been simulated, and eachkinds of simulated operation could be performed according to actual experimental operation.Moreover it possessed good function of data processing which can deepen understandings ofthe experiment process and the corresponding chromatography theories. It has widelypractical prospects in chromatography experiments and the operation training ofchromatography instruments.
