With the development of modern scientific technology, high-strength steel, high temperature-alloys, titanium-alloys and composite materials are widely used. These materials are difficult-to-cut. Common tools'wear resist aren't qualified for the need of the production. It can improve cutting tools'wear when choosing new type wearable tools'materials, logical angles of tools, optimum cutting parameter, high quality cutting oils. We can increase cutting productivity, cutting tool's life and ensure workpiece's surface quality if insert is rotary during the process of machining in existent cutting tools.Firstly, working principle, insert's installation and working angle of self-propelled rotary tool is analyzed in this paper. Then cutting velocity, feed rate and fixed inclination angle's formula are deduced.Secondly, self-propelled rotary cutting tool is modeled by Pro/ENGINEER and have static analysis by Pro/MECHANICA. We acquired magnitude and distributing of the self-propelled rotary cutting tool's stress, strain, displacement, thus completing self-propelled rotary cutting tool's structural optimum design. Then the first four orders frequency and modal shapes of the structure of the self-propelled rotary tool through modal analysis are confirmed, thus avoiding round cutting tool's resonance in cutting process.Finally, self-propelled rotary cutting tool with high-speed steel's round insert was fabricated. We put it in an experiment on 45 steel through single factor cutting test method. Then make an analysis of the influence of cutting dosage on cutting force and surface roughness. The insert's rotational uniformity is observed, making a spectrum analysis on cutting force's signal through Matlab to confirm the rule of insert and machine tool's vibration and reduce vibration by selecting logical cutting parameter.It can be tested that the structure of self-propelled rotary cutting tool is intelligent and can use it in production by cutting test.
