The yarn hairiness is an important index of yarn quality, which influences the spinning process and the fabric appearance, even the back process and the effect of product. With the execution of new criterion and improvement of product quality, the yarn hairiness will become a more crucial index.At first this paper fetched out a new technique-Solospun technique. Compared with conventional ring spinning, Solospun technique used a special dispart device divided the strand into many sub-strands, weak twist at first followed by intensity twist results in a new yarn structure just like the cable appearance, which will reduce the yarn hairiness. A model was built on the influence of the numbers of the sub-strand on the hairiness of the yarn. The result proved that the ratio of the Solospun hairiness to the ring spinning hairiness is equal to the reciprocal of square root of the sub-strands number. That can be rewritten as Ns/Np=1/ m .The mechanism of the hairiness reduction was discussed based on this model, and the following photos proved this theory.A new device was designed based on the conventional wool Solospun devices, which was not suitable for the cotton-spun. PON was chosen as the best material for the key department---- the Solospun roller from the other three materials. It was proved that the 37.4tex is the best count number for the Solospun process through a variety of experiments. The orthogonal experiment and single factor experiment have been done for the parameter of Solospun roller based on the certain material and certain process. The test result proved that the parameters as following, roller diameters=16mm, groove width=0.4mm, slot depth=0.5mm is the optimized cooperation. The 2mm hairiness number of the yarn spun by the device with optimized cooperation is lower 43.05% than that of the common ringing-spun yarn.Solospun technology, which was defined a new method decreasing yarn hairiness, has a lot of advantages. Although it has been widely used in the wool spinning successfully, we should try to apply it on the cotton spinning.
