Gemini surfactants are novel surfactant with especial molecule structure, which are made up of at least two hydrophilic groups (hydronium or polar groups) and two hydrophobic groups. They are connected at the level of the head groups by a spacer groups through chemical bond (covalent bond or electrovalent bond). Because of their especial molecule structure, Geminis have better physical, chemical and applicable properties than conventional surfactants, In recent years, many countries have shown great interests and attentions to geminis.Using glycol, epichlorohydrin and lauryl alcohol, a novel anionic Gemini surfactant didodecyl-ethoxylate bis-sodium sulphate was prepared. The safe synthetic technics and facile material were adopted. The optimum reaction conditions of every step were obtained by single factor and orthogonal experiment. The chemical structure of the intermediate and product was confirmed by GC, GC-MS, thin layer chromatography and IR-spectrum.The properties of this surfactant were examined by numbers, including surface tension, foaming power, wetting power, emulsification, detergence, dispersion ability, stability in hard water and thermal stability. The result shows that Gemini were better than conventional single chain surfactant in aspect of surface tension, stability in hard water, dispersion ability and so on.In this paper, a series of sulphate geminis was obtained by using homologous material. The properties of surface tension and foaming power were also researched.In aspect of application, the experiment about waste news paper deinking of didodecyl-ethoxylate bis-sodium sulphate was implemented. Combining anionic gemini surfactant with nonionic surfactant, the optimum proportion and reaction conditions were obtained by single factor experiment in washing method. Floating method was also used in contrast experiment. The result shows that Gemini surfactant of didodecyl-ethoxylate bis-sodium sulphate can be better used in waste paper deinking.
