The ecological and geological problems induced by hydropower projects will emerge gradually after this hydropower project have been successfully built and run for some time, without fail, it will affect the original ecological - geological environment. The change of environment in reservoir area, not only affect the natural, social and economic conditions in this area, but also the water-resource exploitation, vegetation overlay rate, water and soil corrosion situation and ecological - geological environment in the whole area. So, for the case of Er'tan hydropower project, to study the whole Er'tan area will be beneficial to know the change of environment in the entire drainage area. It has important scientific significance. In this thesis, southern drainage area of Yalong River was chosen to study, the remote sensing and GIS technologies were used to collect the basic data. In order to compare the change of ecological and geological environment before and after the water reserve, the ETM+ data (collected by land resource secondary planet of American) in 1988, 1999, 2003 were chosen respectively as the basic information resource. Using the ERDAS MAPGIS PHOTOSHOP etc. software, we transform the remote sensing images, based on the images in 1988, 1999, 2003, the vegetation overlay rate, the exploitation situation of land, change of geological disasters in Er'tan area were compared, analyzed and discussed. The effect of Er'tan hydropower project on the ecological - geological environment in this area has been studied. The results indicate after the use of Er'tan hydropower project, hydrology and weather conditions have been improved, vegetation biology quantity and overlay rate increased, the agriculture structure and water system became better gradually, no new geological disaster has been induced, the whole ecological - geological environment in this area display a good positive developing trend.
