In this paper, infrared (IR) stealth coatings were prepared with lamellar Al particles, lamellar Zn particles,ITO particles,collagen-ITO composites as the pigments, and as a binder phenolic resin or epoxy resin was used. DSC-TGA and IR emissivity(1~22μm, 8~14μm, 3~5μm)were studied. The mechanical performance of the coating was evaluated from the hardness, abrasion, adhesion test. Films of coatings were characterized by IR spectrometer (IR), transmission electronic microscope (TEM), scanning electronic microscope (SEM), infrared emissometer. Effects of different preparation conditions on microstructure of nanocomposites were investigated, and the following results were obtained.1. IR stealth coatings with lamellar metal particles as the pigmentsThe IR stealth coating is prepared with lamellar aluminium particles as the pigments, and as a binder phenolic resin is used. The testing result indicated that the best performance of the coating can be achieved while the IR emissivity(1~22μm)was 0.447, when the lamellar aluminium particles is at a concentration 35% with the average diameter of the particle about 40μm. The IR stealth coating is prepared with lamellar aluminium particles as the pigments, and as a binder epoxy resin is used. The testing result indicated that the best performance of the coating can be achieved while the IR emissivity(1~22μm)was 0.458, when the lamellar aluminium particles is at a concentration 35% with the average diameter of the particle about 50μm.The IR stealth coatings is prepared with lamellar zinc particles as the pigments, and as a binder phenolic resin is used. The testing result indicated that the best performance of the coating can be achieved while the IR emissivity(1~22μm)was 0.541, when the lamellar aluminium particles is at a concentration 38% with the average diameter of the particle about 46μm. The IR stealth coating is prepared with lamellar zinc particles as the pigments, and as a binder epoxy resin is used. The testing result indicated that the best performance of the coating can be achieved while the IR emissivity(1~22μm)was 0.573, when the lamellar aluminium particles is at a concentration 33% with the average diameter of the particle about 54μm.2. IR stealth coatings with ITO particles as the pigmentsThe IR stealth coating is prepared with ITO particles as the pigments, and as a binder epoxy resin is used. CPVC tested from the permeation rate method is 47.3%. The testing result indicated that the best performance of the coating can be achieved while the IR emissivity(1~22μm)was 0.658, when the PVC is at a concentration 40%~50% with the thickness of the film about 40~60μm.3. IR stealth coatings with collagen-ITO particles as the pigmentsThe IR stealth coating is prepared with collagen-ITO composite as the pigments, and as a binder epoxy resin is used. CPVC tested from the permeation rate method is 46.5%. The testing result indicated that the best performance of the coating can be achieved while the IR emissivity(1~22μm)was 0.648, when the PVC is at a concentration 40%~50% with the thickness of the film about 40~60μm.
