The turning-milling composite machine tool is the necessary trend for development of the machine tool in the recent years. This new type of machines integrates turning, milling, grinding and in-processing inspection. Because the composite machines tool have multi-linked axes and requires more function of the NC software, the traditional CNC system can't satisfy control requirements. Therefore, there are still some difficulties in developing control system. The differences between traditional machine tool and the composite machine are analyzed and the relevant basic theory for the development of the CNC system in the machine is studied.The thesis introduces the current situation of open CNC system, and demonstrates the possibility and necessity of using open CNC system to develop the integrating machine's CNC system. It is easily realized that the generalized NC program for integrating with the interface program of UG/CAM. The hardware of HC-80 CNC system is constructed of IPC, Turbo-PMAC, DPRAM, AC servo actuator, spindle motor controller etc. the function and characteristics of the each component is discussed in detail.The software of the CNC system in the composite machine is developed with Visual C++ under the operation system of Windows NT, which is divided into two parts: the NC processing software and the user-interface software. The NC processing software deals how to apply the existing NC codes or CLSF(Cutter Location Source File) to the composite machine. The user-interface software concerns how to realize the function of man-machine conversation. All the software is designed in the way of modularizationAccording to the analysis of the error source affecting on the machine tool's accuracy, a method for inspection of machine tool and improving accuracy is studied. Using RENISHAW laser interferometer, the precision of linear position of HC-80 X machine is measured and the corresponding error compensation is conducted, and the angular fault and straightness accuracyare detected.
