This thesis generalized the status of development of gas cyclone separators, stated the basic working principles of them and introduced the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), illustrated the mathematical models of multiphase flow.In order to study the condition of motion of the gas inside a gas cyclone separator of the type Stairmand HE and it's mechanism of separation, three-dimensional numerical simulation of internal flow field of gaseous phase and the motion condition of particles in it were conducted by using the software FLUENT. RNG κ-ε mode was used to simulate the gaseous phase because of the strong turbulence of gas, the Lagrange equation-based DPM (Discrete Phase Mode) was used to track the particles' motion.The results showed that the flow field in a gas cyclone separator could be divided into two parts: the inner one and the outer one. Their velocity and pressure took on a good symmetry. The particles' motion was complicated and random because the turbulence of gas. Their separation efficiency was dependent on particles' diameter, the velocity of gas and entering position at the intake.Made use of the results previous, there was an optimized programme. It could promote the separation efficiency about 23.9% by the numerical simulation method.
