The detergent is the essential daily necessities in the people daily life, and the detergent builder is one of the most important constituents in detergent. Since long ago, because of fine washing-build function the sodium tripolyphosphate acts as the detergent constantly, but it brings many of environment questions also day by day. With the environmental water pollution phenomenon more and more worsen, a nonphsphoric detergent builder is been seeking more and more to be urgent. With the improvement of environmental rule of law increasingly in the world and the enhancement of people's environmental awareness continuously, the environmental amicable nonphsphoric detergent builder is attracting harmony with the environment. The nonphsphoric detergent builder in our country was researched firstly in the 1980s and developed rapidly, and it had enhanced the rate of market possession year by year. Many nonphsphoric detergent builders have been applied in the detergent such as inorganic builders 4A zeolite, the layered sodiumsilicate and organic builders sodium citrate, EDTA-2Na. But because of many disadvantages such as high price, low water-solubility and so on, it is necessary to research and develop nonphsphoric detergent builder with high property.Cornstarch contains many of OH groups which can been oxidized carboxylic groups by oxidation and other methods. The carboxylic group that may play the softened water role complex with hard water ion like calcium and magnesium, so it can solve environmental protection question in the daily washes process and substitute the sodium tripolyphosphate that pollutes environment as the detergent phosphorus builder. But the researchof carboxylate starch acting as detergent builder is quite to be late in our country, moreover the commonly used preparation method is not in the water and the product is non-water solubility. All above limit the application and popularization of the carboxylate starch acting as detergent builder.According to these conditions, in this paper taken the cornstarch as the raw material, the water-soluble oxidized cornstarch was synthesized to solve some difficult technical problems as detergent builder. The present paper used one new synthesis multi-carboxylates oxidation cornstarch method for the first time; the success has been triumphantly developed. In the based on the Single factor condition experiment, with oxidation- hydrolyzation of cornstarch produced the carboxyl content by through a statistical orthogonal test,it was found that the oxidation of the native cornstarch in this system depends upon the amount of sodium hydroxide, the temperature and the duration of the oxidation treatment. The microstructure of oxidized cornstarch was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR), GPC,Carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (13C-NMR) and the chemical determination of carboxyl and carbonyl contents, and the preparation craft has determined further. The results showed that the oxidized reaction introducing carboxyl and carbonyl groups took place at OH groups of C2, C3 and C6 in the glucose units and did not cause the breakage of C-O-C linkages.The calcium-binding capacity was determined by the standard addition method with calcium ion selective electrode. The experimental conditionswere optimized, and the calcium binding capacity of oxidized cornstarch may up to 104.5mg/g, which was validated by EDTA titration method and has confirmed the structure accuracy. According to this result, calcium-binding capacities of water-soluble oxidized cornstarch have been compared with that of other detergent builders 4A zeolite and the layered sodiumsilicate. The result indicated that water-soluble oxidized cornstarch fine satisfied the detergent builder request to be possible to use in the detergent profession.Oxidized cornstarch has duplicated and matched with other ingredients of detergent, which was used in actual washing experiment. The formula optimized result indicated that when oxidized cornstarch acting as detergent builder occupied entire detergent content 30%, washing effect to be the best. The relative detersive ratio value of detergent can reach 1.28, the duplication and match effect of oxidized cornstarch with other ingredients is very well, and the detersive power is very strong. The PH buffer capacity of the experiment recipe is equivalent to that of the market detergents. Because of the cost of oxidized cornstarch be lower than that of other commonly used detergent builders the oxidized cornstarch's raw material be renewable resource, and the biodegradation be good and the production craft be simple which solves environmental pollution question, the oxidized cornstarch as detergent builder has stronger performance.
