The textile industry has been playing an important role in the national economy. As an important carding part, the performance of card clothing greatly affects the carding effect and in turn affects the quality of spinning. With China's accession to the WTO, textile enterprises have to participate in the international competitions and the competitions of production quality will be fiercer and fiercer. However, the production quality of domestic card clothing is poor, such as too many burrs on its surface and edges, sharp edges, bad surface quality, low hardness, bad wear-resistant ability and very short life.To improve the hardness of card clothing, people lay emphases on the research of quencher and the experiments of selecting high-carbon and low-alloy material at the present time. Due to the restrictions of chemical and physical performances, there is not much improvement on the further improving hardness of card clothing. Therefore, it's imperative to find a new processing technology to process the surface of card clothing which may greatly improve the card clothing's hardness. The new processing technology should have lower cost compared with foreign technology and be consistent with the national conditions of China. Laser quenching is easy to be automatically controlled and the hardness of the material is easy to be homogeneous. Moreover, the quality of high-power laser generator is reliable and the processing technology applied to wear-resistant parts' surface in the machining industry has been well studied. So laser quenching is applied to improve the hardness and wear-resistant ability on the surface of card clothing in this paper. The experimental studies show that laser quenching may improve card clothing' hardness greatly, meets with the requirements of enterprises and the processing is simple and manipulated easily.At present, mechanical finishing is used to finish card clothing in China. But there are some problems of mechanical finishing because of card clothing's complex shape and small size. After finished, the surface quality is not perfect and causes the decline of performance and life. Product quality is inferior to that of foreign countries, so large quantities of card clothing must be imported nowadays. In addition, burrs can not be completely removed with mechanical methods because of the metallic plasticity, and the finishing efficiency is very low. So, machining method must be improved in order to perfect the surface quality of card clothing.
