The principle of the PASSIM cigarette maker weight control is harness the β -ray of the radioactive isotope, Si90. The energy of the β-ray that will attenuate after gating across the tobacco rod. Electric current related to the density of the rod will occur through a metrical device which received the β-ray. Then the weight of the cigarette will be calculated. Dense end is to reduce the possibility of producing the loose end cigarette. During the high speed running the dense end will flee because of transmission gap, slippage and so on. To improve the reliability and the stability of the older model PASSIM cigarette maker what without the dense end position automatically control system, and to reduce the difficulty of operation we use some mechanical and electrical methods to realize the dense end position automatically control system.Firstly, this paper introduced the structure and principle of the dense end position automatically control system of the PASSIM cigarette maker. Consequently, transfer function of the system will be calculated. Then through the Ziegler-Nichols method ascertain the PID parameter. Make use of industrial computer and single chip processor to control all of the system. The industrial computer take charge of data gathering, calculating and communicating with single chip processor. The single chip processor take charge of adjusting the dense end position through the step-motor. All the purpose to achieve is to correct the dense end position of the tobacco rod. And simulate the system in the process by using the software SIMULINK.At last, the simulation proved that the design of the software and hardware and the structure of the system are feasible, which can meet all the control targets. All the theory analysis agreed with the practical situation and directed the experiments. All the simulative results fulfilled the request of the project of dense end position automatically control system.
