The plane-quadratic-envelope annular worm is independently developed by our country scholars. Since it has the advantages of double line contact, larger composite cure radius, compared with the normal worm, it has wide applications in industry. It is very important to develop and study its manufacturing equipment This thesis carries on theoretical study deeply. Firstly, it presents the evolution, history and status of the theory of the plane-quadratic-envelope annular worm. Secondly it analyzes the Two-Axis-Interpolation NC grinding machine designed and developed by our research team and makes a summary for it, especially some issues needed to improve are pointed out from the theoretical analyzing. Then, the paper puts forward a new strategy machining plane-quadratic-envelope annular worm by means of Four-Axis-Interpolation method based on the primary research of Two-Axis-Interpolation NC grinding machine. This paper also proves that new grinding theory is consistent with basic grinding principle of plane-quadratic-envelope annular worm, but new approach has more outstanding superiority based on the virtual center Four-Axis-Interpolation, and the paper also discusses deeply the feasibility to develop the manufacturing facilities.From the theoretical analysis the design of the Four-Axis-Interpolation machine and key parts and electrnic control have been discussed particularly the influence on generative face by interpolation algorithm and actual interpolation tract error based on the theory of generative face form. The paper explores the influence on the grinding precision by generative face parameters. Finally, the paper introduces the adjustment process and working technology for the machine tool. At present, a Four-Axis-Interpolation NC machine tool has been developed. Successfully satisfactory industrial application has been obtained.
