In order to search and rescue victims in time after a disaster, people havedeveloped kinds of search and rescue equipments, robot is one of them. To applysearch and rescue robots (SARR) in rescue operation, we need to research twoproblems, one is the rescue strategy, and the other is the development of SARR, Theypromote the application and development of SARR together. By far, kinds of searchand rescue robots have been developed by different countries, but there is not auniform and definite description standard of them, this makes it difficult to select anduse appropriate robot for undertaking the concrete tasks. This paper named"Coal-mine search and rescue robot description method research and its detectionmodule development" gives a standard description method of SARR in ontology first, and then according to the special demands of coal mine disaster rescue operation, wedesign a simple coal mine rescue robot sensor module by using many new hardwareand software technologies such as Sensor-Tech, ARM7, MCS51, wireless,μC/OSⅡ,DSP and so on. This system can measure the percentage of CH4, CO, temperature andhuman body Infra-red (IR). The whole system consists of two portions; one is themobile detection module which function is to measure CH4, CO, temperature, humanbody IR and send this data to the terminal unit by wireless. The other part responsesfor receiving wireless data and displaying them on the LCD screen, it also can give analarm signal when the CH4, CO, temperature is too high or human body signal isdetected. Through the research of description method of SARR and the developmentof this system we can have a more clear comprehension of coal mine search andrescue robot and it also offers a beneficial basement for the future work and adirection for the farther development.
