The traditional fabric designing is mainly based on the experience. This method is time-consuming and energy consuming with increased periods and cost for fabric development. Along with the economical development, there is an increasing need for an effective quantificational design method which can save time and labor. The research group guided by Wang Fumei has continuously carried research on the fabric quantificational design method ever since 1998. In the first few years, relation equations between the fabric structural parameters and mechanical performances were established, then the mature Japanese objective evaluation achievements were employed to realize the scientific design of fabric performance .However, there are too many tedious formulas and complex computation in this design process, which restricted its application. In order to solve this problem, the research group developed the worsted fabric performance predicting system (WFCAD 1.0 edition) based on a large numbers of research achievements. This system had been put into practice in the factory, and a comparatively good result was obtained. Still, the software has some technical defects in its function. It may be dead locked when it works.In this paper, the software is rebuilt in a new structure. The original problems of the software were overcome and its function was perfected. The experimental system for teaching of the predicting software was established afterwards. On the basis of subdividing the clothing style, the recommended module for apparel style was established based on fabric mechanical properties, the main research conclusion are as follows:(1) Through studying on the original software, the fabric performance prediction software 2.0 edition (WFCAD 2.0edition) was developed under the core algorithm invariable premise. The research realized the mechanical properties prediction, the formability judgment, the style prediction and the style recommendation. The software used mxoutlookbar and double nesting technology to make the surface concisely, the layout more reasonable and the color more affinitive. At the same time, the reason for the bug were found out and revised. The software was repeated debugging to achieve the optimal conditions so that the software runs more fluid.(2) Completed the experimental system of the fabric performance predicting system. Through the comprehension on the thought scientific design of the fabric, the module of the prediction system was decomposed in accordance with the fabric scientific design process. According to the requirement of teaching, six experiments were designed: the fabric performance cognition, the fabric designing, the mechanical properties computation, the formability judgment, hand value calculation and the clothing style recommendation. Each step of the procedure in the experiment was expressed by the program, and the special terms used in the experiments were detailed explained. This provided an effective teaching platform for students to catch on the fabric scientific design method effectively.(3) Established the clothing style recommendation module based on fabric mechanical properties. In order to help the designer predict the designed fabric's fit to clothing style and allow the designer to preview the 3D profile or formability of the designed fabric, a database was established on the relationship between fabrics' mechanical properties and clothing style based on a large number of experiments. Finally, the clothing style recommendation process was accomplished with the assistance of computer.
