Research Of Rare Earth Antibacterial Agent On Cotton And Wool Fabrics

Natural fibers conform to the consumer demand of people in respect of health, comfortand they cannot destroy the ecological enviromnent. But they are not able to resist bacteriumand microorganism's corrosion, they are often treated with antibacterial agents. Therare-earth elements have quite good antibacterial action, and our country is rich in them,therefore cotton and wool fabrics are treated with the rare-earth elements to improveantibacterial property in this article.The wool fabrics have special functional groups such as carboxyl, amino groups, so thathave a stronger capacity to absorb rare-earth Ce³⁺. Cotton fabrics are modified withpolycarboxylic acid to increase carboxylic content in this article because of their lack ofpowerful groups which can complex with the cerium ion. The optimum treatment conditionsunder which breaking strength and dyeing property are studied are researched in order to getmaximum antibacterial performance, Moreover, infrared spectroscopy(IR) is done to studyreaction mechanism.The experiment shows that optimum treatment condition of wool is Ce³⁺ concentration0.04mol/L, pH 5.5-6, immersing temperature and time 40℃×1h, Meantime, adding rightamount of BTCA is able to improve adsorption of Ce³⁺ and antibacterial property; Inaddition, the wool fabrics have higher breaking strength retain, dyeing rate and uptake ofweak acid dye than common wool fabrics. The optimum modified condition of cotton fabricsis 0.06mol/L Ce³⁺, cross linker concentration 6ï¼…, sodium phosphate 4ï¼…, curing temperatureand time 180℃×80s. Elsewise, fabrics treated with rare-earth Ce³⁺have good antibacterialratio and washing fastness.
