Wool fabric,as a high-grade and natural fiber, exhibit good propriety, such as excellent flexible, superior moisture absorption, good warm-keeping,gentle luster and so on.They are welcome by more and more people.Wool as a protein fiber, they can be dyed by acid dyes, acid mordant dyes, reactive dyes and direct dyes. However, subjecting to various factors,it is very difficulty to acquire good dyeing performance in the actual operation. So the choice of appropriate dyes on wool dyeing new methods, new techniques and new theory is very important and urgent.Rare earth as a new auxiliary, because of its special character,is increasingly favored by dyer in textile application.Rare earth metal ions can complex with carboxyl and amino groups of wool, hydroxyl and amino groups of dye macromolecules.Using this property, wool fabrics are pretreated with rare earth metal ions, and then dyed dyes.Rare earth metal ions which adsorbed in the wool fiber can regard as an "intermediary",and it should increase the dye affinity to the fiber corresponding,so the utilization of dyes are improved ultimately. This paper studied the technology that wool fabrics were first treated by rare earth metal ion Ce3+,then dyed with acid mordant dyes or reactive dyes.Factors exerting influences on dye-uptake were discussed in pretreatment and dyeing technology. The optimal pretreatment and dyeing technology were also obtained.Color fastness, strength and antibacterial activity of dyed wool were determined. The results show this method can acquire good dyeing performance and antibacterial property, and achieve the purpose of no or low-chromium dyeing,dye-uptake of acid mordant dyes or reactive dyes are improved obviously. Also rare earth metal ion possess antibacterial property, the dyed fabric acquired good antibacterial property.
