Workflow technology is a hotspot in the field of Information Technology in the 21 century, and is also an ideal instrument for the enforcement of process automation in the distributed environment at present in the internationality. Workflow technology which concerns computer technology, network communications technology, mechanical engineering and management science is a composite technology. So, a thorough research on the workflow technology can do much benefit to the enterprises'information-based and the treatment efficiency of business process.At present, the research emphases of workflow technology contain workflow business process description language, process modeling/simulation/validation and business process integration, but there is only a little attention paying to the business process's executor. This continues to be the case even with relatively recent advances such as BPEL4WS which does not provide any degree of direct support for resources in business processes, and BPEL4WS is supported by IBM, Microsoft, HP and SAP. Apparently,"Processes don't do work, people do!", in the research of workflow technology the business process executor should be pay more attention.Foundry industry which is an important part of mechanical industry affects national economy and people's daily life greatly. In the environment of Economic Globalization, our foundry enterprises affront huge pressure and challenge. In this article, based on the workflow technology and objective analysis of our middle and small-sized foundry enterprise we proposed to build foundry technology service platform, aiming at making use of advanced computer technology, network communication technology to provide foundry technology service for the middle and small-sized foundry enterprises, associating with technical personnel who are distributed in the university, institute and company. In this paper, first, we analyze the development, existing problems and development trend of workflow technology. Then, we discuss the organization architecture of foundry technology service which is Virtual Team. Virtual Team is a new organization style in the network economy age, which provides feasibility for collaborative work for geographical decentralized people. Our discussion is focused on business process modeling and resource allocation model. We have given our ideas about how to realizing those resource allocation mode. In the paper, we also give details in demand analysis, general design, model partition and some key problems in system realization, and lay emphasis on designs for workflow modeling tool, workflow engine, organizational model, process monitoring and database. At last, based on the above research, we have realized a foundry technology service prototype system, and have given a practical research into the resource allocation model oriented to the foundry technology service. At the end of this paper, we give a prospect about the workflow technology based on the drawbacks of our recent research.
