The traverse plane and top circle can be cut by the C5225 vertical lathe, by whichthe spherical surface work piece can not be machined. The technics furnishment,should be designed according to the actual request before machining the sphericalsurface work piece, causing high production cost, bad product applicability and longproduction cycle. A new alteration method about machine tool, basing on SIEMENSSUNUMERRIK 802D numerical control system, has been brought out in this paper.Concretely, the full-number DC timing alteration of master drive system, the numericalcontrol alteration of left tool carriage as well as the design and debug of the numericalcontrol electric system, has been achieved.The Eurptherm 590 full-number DC actiyator had been applied when altering themaster drive system, whose transmission has been kept down while hydraulic 16-classmanual speed control had been changed to 4-class stepless speed regulation. Thealteration plane comprised the choosing of timing plane and electromotor, thetransmission route adjusting of the master drive, the design of DC actiyator controlcircuit and PLC program.In the left tool carriage feed system, the sliding leadscrew and the semi-closedloop control has been displaced by ball screw. The alteration comprised the choosingof control way to the servo feed system, the confirm of mechanism part alterationplane about the feed system, the parameter-count and choosing of the ball screw pair aswell as the servo motor.The coordinated movement about X and Z axis could be implemented bySINUERRIK 802D numerical system effectively. The design about numerical controlelectric system comprised the components of hardware, the connecting method, thedesign and debugging of the system PLC program, the debugging of numerical systemand the set of system parameters. After the alteration, the complex spherical surface work piece, besides normaltraverse plane and top circle, could be machined. In this way, the machining bound ofthe tool could be enlarged, the productivity as well as the precision could be improvedhighly and the cost of numerical control tool, 500,000 yuan, would be saved. Thisalteration was successful.
