NC technology is the important foundation and key technique of the mechanical machining modernization and military industry development. NC machining can raise production rate, keep machining quality steady, reduce machining cycle, improve production flexibility, carry out the automatic manufacture of all kinds of complicated and exact parts, achieve the CAD management in factories and workshops, cut down the equipment number in plants, save labor force, improve working condition, accelerate the developing and updating speed of the products, and enhance the ability of the corporations to adapt to the market and general benefit. At the same time, it also can make the preparation and machining process of the manufacture together, unite CAD, CAM and CAPP, and cause the flexible and automatic level of the mechanical machining go up.CAD NC programming and virtual machining simulation of the positive sphere on the solid rocket engine is accomplished in this thesis by UG NX, which, at present, is an advanced mechanical engineering system consisted of CAD, CAM and CAE together in the world. Based upon the new machining technics and high quality NC programming, a new way to carry out the higher efficiency and accuracy machining of the sphere is given. The main content is below. Firstly, the machining method of the sphere surface is chosen after analyzing the arts and crafts of the sphere in detail according to its structure characteristic and technical specifications. Then parameterized models of the sphere, blank, fixture and machine tool are created in UG/CAD environment. Afterward, 5 axes NC codes are generated and technical parameters, such as tool path, are optimized in UG/CAM module. Above all, through machining process simulation, the gouges between cutting tools and the part are eliminated, and the interferences and collisions between machine tool components, fixture and cutting tools are avoided. Because UG NX is built on a product design environment based on process, it can carry out the integration from development to machining, impel the automation and high efficiency of the design and manufacture, and also improve the competitive capability of the enterprises on the international market.
