PP is one kind of general purpose plastics, which has a number of properties andso it is used widely in plenty of applications. It is the best material which hasexcellent properties, which has arisen great emphasis in research and industry fields.Common PP might just as well play the role of engineering plastics in many appliedfields. The influence of glass bead, nano-Kaolin, nano-SiO2, on the strength andtoughness properties of PP was discussed.Several sizes of glass beads have been selected to investigate the differentinfluence on PP/glass bead composites. The mechanics properties and fluidity of thecomposites were discussed, and the influence of POE-g-MAH content on the systemcompatibility was investigated at the same time. Unsurface-treating of glass beadreduced its strength and toughness. But surface-treating of glass bead improved itsstrength and toughness, and impact strength didn't drop inremarkable. Glass beadwith small particle size is beneficial to composites toughening. As the compatilizerof glass bead and PP, POE-g-MAH has obviously effected. By adding POE-g-MAH,the fluidity of composites was improved, impact strength improves to some extent,tensile strength and flexural strength could be improved too.The nano-Kaolin, nano-SiO2 were PP reinforcing and toughness modifiers, PP/nano-partieles composites were prepared by melt-mixing process. The resultindicated that surface-treating of nano-particles improve its strengthening andtoughening. It is an important factor, which influence mechanical properties ofnano-composites, that nano-partieles act with matrix and disperse well.Crystalline structure and properties of PP/inorganic-particles composites wereobserved by polarizing microscope and DSC respectively. Results show thatinorganic-particles act as a nucleation agent in PP, thus upgrading the crystallinetemperature and nucleation rate. The spherulites of the crystalline become small and even, but there is little influence on crystalline degree and melt point. Within thescope of admission, increasing the content or surface-treatment of inorganic-particleshas obvious influence on crystalline structure characteristics of the system.Separated influence of PP-g-MAH, different coupling agents and dosage ofcoupling agent on the PP/inorganic-particles composites mechanics properties havebeen discussed. Studies have shown that PP-g-MAH improve the compatibility ofcomposites obviously, the various mechanics properties was improved. Glass bead,nano-Kaolin, nano-SiO2, were modified by silicone coupling agent KH-550 wasbetter. It has 2ï¼…to look on as silicone coupling agent consumption, and thecomprehensive properties of composites are optimum. For PP/inorganic-particlessystem, when the different inorganic-particles were dispersed in PP, the system willshow different mechanical properties. The result shows that it is beneficial tostrengthening and toughening of the system to improve the dispersing effect andincrease the concentration of inorganic particles in PP matix.
