As one main type of mechanical drives, the worm drive is widely used in manyindustries, such as metallurgy, mining, transportation, chemical industry, nationaldefense etc. Along with the constant development of transmission, the wormtransmission must have higher transmission accuracy and stability, but the existingmanufacturing processes and tools can not meet this requirement. So, we mustimprove the worm drive transmission performance through using the new designmethods and design tools.In recent years, with the rapid development of the computer and informationtechnology, professional design software widely emerged and the traditionalmechanical design industry gained its new vigor. The computer-aided design that isthe important component of advanced manufacturing technology, is one of the mostinfluential works in the computer applied technology. This technology is used forprocessing the worm wheel cut by fly cutter modeling and analysis. The main analysisand modeling software are the Auto CAD and SolidWorks. Programming Language isVisual Basic 6.0. The traditional method in analyzing the worm wheel tooth by flycutter is only taking the calculation and analysis in the middle plane. But in fact, thehigher error is in other transverse planes. In addition, since the worm gear 3Dmodeling is difficult, we still lack a relatively simple and feasible method. Therefore, in this paper we have also done some exploration. The main works and the new ideasof thesis are summarized as follows:(1)Based on forming theory of cylindrical worm helicoids, the commonequations of cylindrical worm helicoids are deduced, and then the tooth surfaceequations of ZA worm and ZK worm are deduced on the basis. According to the toothprofile of worm, the profiles of fly cutter are deduced.(2) The mathematical model is built according to the meshing theory of wormdrive. And the profile equation of worm wheel cut by fly cutter is deduced.(3) The process of fly cutter processing the worm wheel is simulated throughprogramming with Visual Basic on the platform of Auto CAD. Through thepreparation between the different number of threads and different transverse planes,we recognize the relations between them and the worm wheel tooth precision. Therelationships have certain values to the actual design.(4) SolidWorks is applied to generate the 3D model of worm wheel tooth cut by afly cutter. Then the moving simulation and the interference check are taken. The 3Dmodeling is the foundation of further analysis.
