With the most of oil fields in China coming into the late stage of development the formation pressure of oil fields is falling down. The electric submersible pump (ESP), a sort of advanced artificial lift equipment, is adapted to oil wells for the sake of the increasing the production. The ESP is consisted of hundreds of impellers in series. The circulating situation of the impellers of ESP has great effect on the normal operation of the pump, especially some flow-path of impellers are clogged by some convex defect, which makes the waterpower loss increase and the efficiency of the pump decrease. The flow-path of impeller can be regarded as a curving small-diameter short pipe which diameter changes gradually, and the influence of parameters of fluid (especial pressure) caused by convex defect inside can be used to inspect the impeller. With the use of a high-resolution power multi-channel data acquisition system and the flow-path experimental device of the impeller a function relationship between the fluid pressure and the convex defect of impeller is achieved from the experimental data. The room experiment shows that the experimental results accords with the theoretical analysis result derived from the fluid dynamics and verifies the correctness of the research model and method. The pressure error value between the flow-paths of the impeller and the average pressure value among the flow-paths are used to judge the fluid flow and pass ability in a impeller and a threshold pressure error value and a threshold pressure value are defined reasoningly for checking the impeller by the differential analysis of sensitiveness of the pressure transducers and the size of flow-path of the impeller. This research builds up a necessary base for the design of the practical intelligent impeller's detecting equipment.
