With the constant improvement of our country's market structure, the competition has been intensified and industry competitiveness especially leading industry competitiveness has become one of the main factors which decide the competitive power of a country or region. As a vital department related to peoples' health and life security, medical and pharmaceutical products industry has been quickly growing up and has played a more and more important role in our country's economy. Under fierce competition background of the global medicine market, Shanghai's medical and pharmaceutical products industry faces both severe challenges and great chances as one of the six key industries in Shanghai.This paper reviews correlative theories of industry competitiveness and makes a brief analysis of the developments of medical and pharmaceutical products industry of our country and Shanghai. Then on the basis of the theory of comparative advantage and competitive advantage proposed by prof. Bei Jin, two index systems are founded to evaluate the comparative advantage and competitive advantage of Shanghai's medical and pharmaceutical products industry with principal component analysis method and SPSS software. Afterwards the comparative advantage and competitive advantage are combined to make a analysis about SWOT and finally advices of how to improve the competitiveness of Shanghai's medical and pharmaceutical products industry are put forward according to all the above.
