According to the character of nanomaterials data and application effect of database system, the necessary and significance of building database system of nanomaterials are discussed and the program is putted forward on the base of the design feature of database system. The database system designed includes three parts, the summary of base knowledge, achievement exposition and the development of accessorial technology. Relevant data including the data about base knowledge, experiments and properties prediction are collected and processed according to the design program. During the collecting and processing data about base knowledge, the base database tables of database system of nanomaterials are established, and the several integrated database tables, such as the table of preparation method, the table of preparation factor, etc. are provided within my ken. During the collecting and processing data about experiment, the optimum factor values of affecting the process of preparation and the produce properties in the eight methods of preparing nanomaterials are provided after theoretic and experimental analysis, the relevant database tables are made-up with these factor data, and a knowledgedatabase is established according to the principle of obtained data. During the collecting and processing data about property prediction, according to the microstructure of nanomaterials, a composite model is established to research the size effect of mechanical and thermal properties parameters, then relevant formulas of properties vs size are established. According to the compare between the experimental data in existence and section of calculation data, it shows that the model established is rational and the formulas are correct.The functions of database system designed are introduced as follows. The base knowledge of nanomaterials can be queried according to the module of summary of base knowledge. The relevant achievements, articles published, science and research items and patents can be queried according to the module of achievement exposition. The module of development of accessorial technology is referred to data inputting, materials querying, expert system of preparations prediction and properties prediction. According to the expert system, it can forecast the probability of preparation result after the change of preparation factors. It is helpful to establish the expert system for theoretic analysis of the preparation methods and prediction of the experiment result. The calculation about the mechanical and thermal property parameters of size effect by computer program can be made according to the module of properties prediction. The database system of nanomaterials will provide a sevice platform for nanomaterials research and development further.At last, a verification is made by the experimental of nano-Al2O3 powder by sol-gel method. It has consistence of experimental result and running result of database.
