Computer Assistant Instruction (CAI) synthesizes various research fields such as Computer Science, Education Science and Psychology to develop into a innovative research area. Because it can introduce the knowledge of the course with the use of pictures, animations, voice and other multi-media, CAI is an inventive education method. Expert System is one of the most active research branches of AI. Expert System is the computer programming system which can simulate the human experts to solve the problems. With the appearance of the first Expert System called DENDRAL in 1965, Expert Systems have been applied in various research fields successfully.The author of this thesis has developed a teaching system named PFACAI in which an Expert System is involved based on the characters of the knowledge on Plastic Parts' Faults. PFACAI can both help the teachers accomplish the task of teaching and assist the students in reviewing their lessons. PFACAI is different from the traditional CAI. Not only does PFACAI sort out and simplify the theoretical knowledge, but also it includes the experience of human experts in the area of plastic moulds. With the help of PFACAI, .,students not only obtain the theoretical knowledge but also master the thinking that human experts find reasons which cause the plastic parts' faults, and the way that human experts solve problems. In order to share resource and serve more clients, the author utilizes the database based on Client/Server. At last, the suggestions for further improvement of PFACAI are given.
