Nowadays China is facing serious water pollution problem. We are in urgent need of technology support system for basin environment management. Establishment of a basin environment management system has been considered as one of the most practical and effective techniques to tackle the water pollution problem.This study is supported by the project "Study of Integrated Water Quality Model and Emergency Management System in the Songhua River Basin". We have built water quality model system included rainfall-runoff model, pollution loading model, hydrodynamic model and water quality model. Based on the models, Songhua River Water Environment Management System has been developed and applied to routine management and emergent pollution management. Following are main research contents and achievements.(1) Using NAM module in MIKE 11, we have built Songhua River's rainfall-runoff model, which can achieve hydrological simulation on the whole basin.(2) Songhua River's pollution load model was developed based on MIKE LOAD, which is to provide reliable pollution information.(3) Songhua River's hydrodynamic model has been built based on HD module in MIKE 11. This can achieve hydrodynamic simulation on the whole basin and provide reliable hydrodynamic condition for water quality model.(4) Songhua River's water quality model has been built by using AD module and Ecolab module in MIKE 11. This implemented the simulation of pollution factors including DO, BOD, CODMn, NH4-N and NO3-N. Integrating this model with rainfall-runoff model, pollution loading model and hydrodynamic model, the water quality model system for the Songhua River Basin is developed.(5) To meet Songhua River's management requirement, we developed Songhua River Water Environment Manage System based on Visual Studio.NET 2005 and ArcGIS 9.1. The system integrates spatial database and property database by using ADO.Net and Geodatabase of ESRI. Data interface and representation between ArcGIS and Water Quality Model System are implemented by Dynamic Linking Library (DLL). The system achieves a whole integration of model system, GIS, data and user interface and provides a dynamic simulation with human-computer interaction. It greatly facilitates management process and will improve water environment management level.
