In recent years, many parts are used in automobile industry and aviation industry, which often have special surfaces or big sizes such as impellers and screws. It is hard to process them by turning because of their big sizes and unique shape. But turn-milling is a good choice. The work pieces needn't rotate in a high speed, so the big size and unique shape are no longer problems. Besides, the quality is good. So turn-milling is more and more widely used.As a new process way, turn-milling's rules are not as clear as other traditional processing ways. Although it can get good quality, the efficiency is not so satisfying. So it is very necessary to discovery the rules of turn-milling in order to choose reasonable processing parameters.According to the positions of the tool and work piece, turn-milling can be classified into axial and perpendicular turn-milling. Many researchers have been working on them based on geometric analysis. Geometric analysis is a method of attaining the machined surface roughness by computing the relative geometric position of work piece and tool. But it is hard to access the surface texture in this way. The issue is solved with computer simulation system. The computer simulation system for axial turn-milling machined surface texture was developed based on a mathematical model of the axial turn-milling process. With the simulation system, quantitative analysis of machined surface and the relationship between the machined surface texture and axial feed rate, ratio of rotational speed, number of tool edges, radius of tool, and the depth of cutting can be carried out to find more accurate rules of turn-milling process. With the help of axial turn-milling simulation system and others'achievement, experimental design are used to discovery whether the factors are independent and the main factors. So we can pay special attention to those main factors to improve the quality of turn-milling. A mathematical model of the axial turn-milling process was set up to develop a computer simulation system for machined surface roughness in turn-milling.It reveals what influence the rate of rotational speed, the radius of tool, obliquity of milling cutter, axial feed rate exert on machined roughness. It was concluded that:1) The surface roughness goes linear with the rotation speed ratio, and the radius of tool. 2) Formula of turn milling machined surface roughness was concluded.
