Along with the development of global economy, the international community is paying more and more attention to energy problem, as one of the most important part of it, oil and gas resource is becoming the public focus. The oil and gas resource on land in China, which is considered as a big consumer, is not enough for use, so exploitation in ocean is of great significance to the development of civil economy in China.As the main part of oil and gas exploitation in ocean, offshore platform plays an important part in the development of marine petroleum industry. However, some offshore platforms including both domestic and abroad have broken down and halted production recently, some of which even have exploded or collapsed. Thus it's becoming more and more important to make sure of the production on offshore platform. The construction of offshore platform costs extremely high, the environment they locate are extreme and they serve a long time, so their reliability and durability have suffered inclement challenges. Considering that the traditional examination methods partially excessively to be long and non-real-time, the on-line monitoring research on offshore platform has become an urgently important issue and the focus of research in the area related today.This paper introduces the foundation of an on-line monitoring system based on Windows XP which is used on offshore platform using VC++ according actual project. Firstly introduces the signification and purpose of establishing the system and the general situation of the technology that is used in the area. Secondly introduces the architecture of the system and expounds the gas monitoring system from both hardware and software, and introduces the working process of local part and on-line part and the function of the gas monitoring system such as alarm, real-time-monitoring, report generation and data display on the Internet. Thirdly studied especially on enhance the system by software, including the disposal of index and primary key, the improvement of the database querying in local part and the improvement of paging solution in on-line part. Finally gets a data management solution that aims at working on offshore platform after some experiments, improves the performance of the system and makes the system more adaptive to the circumstances such as offshore platform, offers a new thought to the design of software of the same kind.
