Tower is very important equipment in lots of fields such as petrochemical, pharmaceutical, environment protection and so on, so tower design also seems very important. The failure of the tower design may result in many operation problems. At present, domestic tower design software is mainly tower design software package which are brought by large-scale chemical process simulation software (such as Aspen Plus, PRO/II, etc.), Tray of Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Corporation (LPEC), Sulcol of Sulzer Corporation and KG-TOWER of Koch-Glitsch Corporation etc..There are same shortages in these software more or less, such as lower version of software which can not support the current operating system (for example Tray), the confined types of tower internals and the poor universality of software (for example Sulcol, KG-TOWER), high complexity of software and no load performance diagram (for example Aspen Plus, PRO/II). So it is necessary to develop tower design software with more perfect functions, more strong universality, more convenient operation and use.In this paper, Visual Basic 6.0 is used for front developing instrument, desk-top database system-Access is adopted as database platform of ground, ADO technology is used to visit and operate database, and the prevalent Oriented-Object method is adopted as design method of the procedure. These approaches are used for developing tower design software CUP-Tower. During the design of the software, CUP-Tower combines the VBA (Visual Basic for Application) function with Word and Excel. Users can input simulation result which calculated by Aspen Plus or PRO/II into CUP-Tower. When design finishes, if the result meets the requirement, it can be output to Word or Excel. For better using the software, user can turn to user manual and reminder.CUP-Tower includes many kinds of column tray ,many kinds of random packing and structured packing, besides the above, CUP-Tower can also be used in the calculation of extraction column, which are not included in the other design softwares.CUP-Tower software can be used not only to design new tower but also to check and reform the design of the old tower. The computed result has proved that CUP-Tower is actual and dependable comparing with existing commercial software and literature. In short, CUP-Tower is good tower design software with advantages of dependable result, good universality, simple operation and friendly interface.For the experiment, the hydrodynamic performance of super float valve was investigated by using air-water system in a stainless steel column. The paper have studied plant pressure drop, weeping and entrainment with the change of kinetic energy factor based on valve holes, weir height, open area, weir height and weir loading. Finally, according to experimental data the paper obtained the correlations of dry pressure drop, total pressure drop, weeping and entrainment. The results show that super float valve tray possessed less total pressure drop, lower weeping and more entrainment than F1 valve tray.
