Compare to tray column, packed tower has many advantages such as lowpressure drop, small liquid holdup, high separation efficency, large capacity etc..Therefore,the scope of application of the packed column is more widely, at the sametime the requirements of column design are increasingly strict. Packing as the maincarrier of the packed column gas-liquid phase mass transfer process is the corecomponent of the packed tower. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop the softwarewhich can be used to design the packed tower quickly and accurately. In this thesis,the hydrodynamic performance calculation methods including the flooding gasvelocity calculation model, tower diameter calculation model, pressure dropcalculation model, the liquid holdup calculation model and HETP calculation model,were determined which were suitable for Rasching rings, Pall ring, Impulse-packing,Glitsch Grid packing and Goodloe packing respectively. The Design and Rating ofPacked Tower Software (DRPTS for short) for the packings previously mentioned wasdeveloped, which could improve the efficiency of computation of hydrodynamicperformance of the packed tower.The load performance diagram of tower has the significant guiding function inchecking the rationality of column design, understanding the operating status of thetower and improving the operability of the tower. At present the packed tower loadperformance diagram has rarely been studied. In the thesis, the drawing method ofload performance diagram was developed,which will be suitable for Rasching rings,Pall ring, Impulse-packing, Glitsch Grid packing and Goodloe packing.Design and Rating of Packed Tower Software suitable for the packings previouslymentioned was developed by using Microsoft Visual Basic6.0language in this paper(Design and Rating of Packed Tower Software, DRPTS for short).In the thesis, the hydrodynamic characteristics and mass transfer characteristics of packing were studied and analyzed. And on the basis of this, hydrodynamicperformance models were explored, which including the flooding gas velocity, towerdiameter, pressure drop, the liquid holdup and HETP, and so on. In order to choose thebetter models, the articles recommend values and experiment ones were calculated tocompare, and models’formulas were regression calculated essentially. The averagerelative errors of the regression equations of the random packing was about1.36%, andthe errors of regression equations including Impulse-packing, Glitsch Grid packingand the diagram ofFP CG,maxof Goodloe packing were1.52%,2.53%and5.68%.The errors were small, accordingly, the results of the regression equations were reliably.At the same time, The specific method of drawing the load performance diagram wasstudied. And on the basis of the mathematical calculation model and the calculationmethod of design and rating of packed tower being determined, two industrialapplication example were used to examine the software.The DN38Plastic Pall ringpacking and50-type metal pulsed packing were mainly designed. The each averagerelative errors of the Pall Ring software calculated values with literature values wasless than13.73%,besides pressure drop. Because the results were not the final ones,the calculation need to rating calculate further. And the software to calculate the valuesof the metal pulsed packing was in the recommended values of the literature of Sulzer.The results indicate that the results from the software are accurately and reliably.About the rating part of the software, the design results of Pall rings were ratingcalculated. The errors of the rating results with literature values were less than13%,besides the operating pressure drop was36%, but they were within the range ofengineering. And packed tower load performance diagram can be draw by the software.The limitation of gas-liquid flow and operating point location can be shown in thediagram. It is a convenient and accurate tool packages of software for packed towerdesign and rating.
