There was phenomenon of small coal pits connected with goaf of large mines'production system because of the small coal pits being mined casually around large mines beyond boundaries or layers, which destroyed exploitation plans and ventilation systems, and then air leak made coal spontaneous combustion in goaf of large or small coal mines. So production safety of large coal mines was greatly affected. The paper researched on causes of coal spontaneous combustion in Guan Jiayu intake shaft of Tai Yuan Dong Shan coal mine, found out scope of fire district by Isotope Radon Detection technique, and brought forward the corresponding control schemes to put out fire caused by small coal pits.Firstly, the characteristic parameters of Dong Shan coal seam spontaneous combustion was measured by temperature programmed experiment. The factors affecting coal seam spontaneous combustion were analyzed combining with actual data on spot. The variation law of basic parameters in coal spontaneous combustion process as well as characteristic of small coal pits fire was studied to provide basis of small coal pits fire control.Secondly, the distribution and developing tendency of small coal pits fire was made clear by Isotope Radon Detection technique, and small coal pits fire prevention and control technique system mainly with Colloid Technique in Extinguishing Coal fire was put forward. According to position of fire district, reasonable drilling positions to inject glue were confirmed to make full use of colloid to put out fire.Thirdly, several key problems were solved during process of fire extinguishing. One trial drilling tools making holes rapidly was applied to solve the problems of drilling in goaf loose coal. The complex glue-injection system of mobile glue-injection machines on the ground and under mine was used to control fire rapidly by injecting great flux of colloid. Finally, the fire caused by small coal pits spontaneous combustion in Dong Shan coal mine was successfully put out in fact, the ability of providing air in Guan Jiayu intake shaft was recovered and the life expectancy of intake shaft was prolonged. It obtained great economic and social benefit. This research can give reference to control similar coal mine fire caused by small pits coal spontaneous combustion.
