The dental handpiece and diamond bur have been utilized to ensure the marginal fitness between the teeth and the prostheses in dental restorations. The surface finish after abrasive finishing will affect the life-span of the prostheses. The two dimensions experimental set was used to emulate the restorative operation with a dental handpiece and a diamond bur. The surface roughness of Vita Mark II was investigated. The following work and conclusions are drawn:In the finist part, the present research and developing works in the field of dental restoration were introduced.The method of orthogonal experimental design was adopted to investigate the surface roughness of Vita Mark II. The Talysurf-6 was used to detect the surface roughness after finishing ,and the results of the experiments were obtained.Ten parameters of surface roughness were selected, they were arithmetical mean devation of the profile(R_a), maximum height of the profile(R_y), ten-point height of irregulaties(R_z) et al. The method of intuitionistic analysis and variance analysis were applied to analyze the primary factors that affect the ten parameters, and the rule that the parameters of abrasive finishing affected the surface roughness of Vita Mark II was found.In the end of the paper, the conclusion of statistical analysis and the expect of future work were given.
