Cylindrical cam mechanisms are found in almost all mechanical devices and machines (i.e., agriculture, transportation equipment, textiles, packaging). With the development of NC technology, most of the machining of the Cylindrical cam is finished by a NC machining, but the NC machine tool factories are not provide the professional software package for cylindrical cam manufacture. Consequently, many cylindrical cam factories have to use universal CAD/CAM software packages (i.e., UG, Pro/E) as design and manufacture programming platform. Because of it is lack of pertinence to use universal software for special cam manufacture programming, it is still laboriousIn this research, cylindrical cam with translating cylindrical followers is the research object. By using conjugate surface and single parameter family of surface, the vector function of the profile surface of cylindrical cam is obtained, the characteristic of NC machining for cylindrical cam is discussed, and the formula for the center track of cutter is deduced. Base on these, with the secondary develop function of AutoCAD and the tools of ObjectArx and VC++6.0, auto-programming system for cylindrical cam in NC machining is developed.the entity data can be obtained by Pass the formula curve, list curve or AutoCAD drawing to the curve process module of the system, then by the steps of equal error Straight line interpolation, input cam parameter, calculate the track of center of cutter, product NC code, and then the NC code for the cylindrical cam is achieved.At last the NC code is obtained by a cylindrical cam programming example, and then the code pass to the VERICUT which is a NC machining emulator system. The results of the emulator are proved that the effects of unequal machining that adopt the NC code which is obtained by the system are same of equal machining when the difference bewtteen the diameter of cutter and the diameter of follower is not very big. Therefore, research achievements with theoretical significance and practical value are acquired.
