The phenomenon of aging population is becoming a more and more serious social problem in China. The speeding development of modern computer technology makes the complex, time-consuming and taxing work possible. The technology of untouched three-dimensional measuring technology can elastically and accurately get the valid date of human bodies of who come from different regions and different countries, and establish a database which can precisely and virtually reflect the characters of human body. The research in the paper takes 240 elderly people in northern part of Shanxi province in China as objects. The body character date, which needed in the research of those 240 samples has been gained by combining the technology of untouched three-dimensional measuring in Garment Technology Research Center of Xi'an Polytechnic Technological university and artificial measuring operation. All data has been analyzed under the SAS software system to reach some aspect conductive data conclusion for garment industry and market of wear for the elderly. Eight principal components have been selected through principal component analysis to express the main characters of data which were collected from120 male samples and ten principal components for data from 120 females as well. Linear equations, which release the mathematical relationship between some of the testing items and breast circumference and stature, have been calculated out by utilization of regression analysis program. In practical manufacturing, those equations can be used to establish database, which contains garment patterns for each type of body shape conveniently and accurately. Thus the probable shape distortion will be avoided furthest while we reckon the patterns of different grading. The last part of the paper, body shapes of the 240 samples have been classified into 5 types for male samples and 4types for female samples. These 5 types of body shape can be defined like: slim, ordinary, overweight, fat, prominent (belly) and they are expressed with these five character: Y, A, B, C, D'. Similarly, 4types of female's body shape are A, B, C, D', which means ordinary, overweight, fat and prominent (belly). The value of each restrictive part of midterm body shape is thus determined based on the body shape classification, and so are the intervals of restrictive part used in reckoning patterns of different grading. These are all foundational work for the designing of size series for elderly wear in practical manufacturing activities. The main innovations of this paper launches in these three points below: Firstly, the objects choice is in favor of the northwest part of China, where few similar research involves before. Most of the body shape research on elderly people took place in the east part of China, where is more developed than in the northwest. Secondly, the paper deals with both body shape for male and female together in the same paper. It releases more detailed and comprehensive characters of body shape of the elderly in the area.
