Impellers are a type of complicated parts with relatively normal sculpture and marked shape.Their working surfaces are normally complex surfaces. The design and manufacturing of the working surface relates to several subjects such as aerodynamics, hydrodynamics and so on, and is regarded as a long-standing difficulty. With the development of the design theories and methods, the working surfaces are becoming more and more complex, and this raises a higher claim to manufacturing. This paper is mainly about 3-Dimensional numerical modeling, tool-path planning,tool-path calculation, simulation in UG/CAM and machine NC. system. Related technologies of numerical design and manufacturing of integral impellers is relatively generally studied.A new method is adopted to gain a group of data points of free-form surface from original capability parameters in impellers' numerical modeling. A smooth curve and a smooth surface can be accomplished respectively after cubic B-spline interpolation of these points. This approach is obviously different from those ones in common use—Reverse Engineering. Then, the side machining rough tool-path and finish tool-path in 5-axis NC machine tool is analyzed. The algorithm of the side machining tool-path for ruled surfaces is mainly discussed.Gouge detecting by NC simulation system is adopted to judge the results of the machined surface. The valid NC program is achieved by using special post-processing system, aiming at DMU70eVolution.
