With the rapid economic development of China in recent years, the urban problems have been emerging constantly. The leading-off and lagging-behind phenomenon between development of the urban living environment and economic development appears in the process of urbanization, which have brought the negative effect to sustainable development of the city in China. So in order to realize the sustainable development of the city, the relation between the living environment and economic construction should be coordinated well.This dissertation takes Guangzhou as an example to carry on preliminary appraisal research to the urban living environment and economic state of development of coordination in Guangzhou from 1995 to 2006 based on background above. It analyzes the basic theories of coordination development through examining coordination, the functions of coordination and coordination system, and structures an index system about city live environment and economy based on data and documents. Then comprehensive appraisal index of urban living environment and economic system in Guangzhou city is structured through functional relation and main composition analytic approach. The coordination degree between city living environment and economic system from 1995 to 2006 is worked out and graded on the basis of coordination degree model.The results indicate that the urban living environment and economic development of Guangzhou have kept only at the initial stage of development coordination, Living environment development lags behind economic development. Finally, the dissertation puts forward the measures of promoting the urban living environment of Chengdu to coordinate with economy in harmony from four respects of living environment and economic development.
