With strength increase on waste water treatment, wastage of cationic polymer flocculants(CPF) increases rapidly. The perfect performance of CPF is used widely in the waste water fields. In this paper, the preparation of CPF is studied by the water dispersion polymerization with AM and DAC as monomer. The confirmation of best technical condition, the effect of system stability, kinetics, character and application of CPF are researched. CPF is prepared in a suitable system. The intrinsic viscosity ([η]) of polymer is studied on the different reaction temperature, initiator, monomer, dispersants, emulsifiers, electrolytes and the proportion between AM and DAC in the APS initiator system. The results show that w((NH4)2S2O8)=0.19%, w(AM)=20%, w(DAC)=0.5%, w(PEG20000):w(H2O)=0.35, nitrogen gas charging 30 min, polymerization temperature 60℃and reaction time 5h is the best condition. In the Na2SO3-(NH4)2S2O8 initiator system the effect of temperature and initiator on [η] was discussed. Finally the system stability is discussed under the different reaction condition such as electrolyte, monomer, initiator and chelator.The effect of monomer, initiators, temperture and dispersants on the reaction speed is studied by the test of bromize method. Finally it was gained that the kinetic equation is: Rp∝[M]1.27[E]0.31[I]0.73, the activation energy of reaction E is 131.7kJ/mol. In the system of APS/ Na2SO3, the kinetic equation is: Rp∝[APS]1.61[Na2SO3]0.82, the activation energy of reaction E is 68.5kJ/mol. The principle of dispersion polymerization was discussed. IR spectrogram confirms the structure of P(AM-DAC). LLS, optics microscope and SEM reviews the change of grain size under the different dispersants, electrolytes, monomer. XRD indicates that the cation in copolymerization by water dispersion polymerization is most uniformity than it by aqueous solution polymerization, inverse emulsion polymerization and inverse microemulsion polymerization. The TG curves shows that polymer prepared by dispersion polymerization is more stable than one by aqueous solution polymerization.Settlement experiment researches the flocculation ruler. Transparency and settlement speed demonstrates the effect of pH, the degree of cation, dosage of CPF and the molecular weight on the flocculation. The result is that latex dissolves in 5min and COD removal efficiency by P(AM-DAC) is 95% in the test of sludge. Finally the problem of isothermal adsorption is discussed.
