Research status and development for the water-borne luminous paint and the persistent phosphors of rare earth ions doped alkali earth aluminates are systemically studied in this paper.Surface encapsulation for improvement phosphor and water-borne luminous paint preparation are showed in our work.Their performances are investigated by some test for properties.Luminescent materials, which based on alkaline earth aluminate (SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+),was encapsulated by polyacrylamide in condition of 80℃,PH=1-2.The resulting samples are characterized and analyzed by IR, TG and light-decay spectrum.Their properties of water resisting and dispersion are also investigated by PH and sedimentation test.It is found that the modification for luminescent materials covered by polyacrylamide is success, and the luminescent intensity decreased only 2%which have no effect on their photoluminescence performances. It is very important that their properties of water resisting and dispersion are obviously improved. The water-borne luminous coating is prepared by two parts:use the improved(SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+) phosphor as pigments and mix with styrene-acrylate emulsion. The results show many factors, such as styrene-acrylate emulsion ratio, doping concentration of phosphors, particles size, padding and PH value, play important roles on mechanic performances of coating film, persistent luminescence of coating film, stock stability of coating. The best prescription of coating was obtained and the properties of luminescent coating were determined. The factors which affected the coating properties were discussed.
